About Whaea Toni

Tēnā koutou, ko Whaea Toni Kahu-Sweet ahau.
This is my 7th year at Rangikura School and throughout that time I have taught in Years 7-8, Years 5-6 and the last 3 years I have taught Years 0-1.

I am passionate about the students, staff and whānau of Rangikura School because I live in this community.  My mokopuna also attend Rangikura School so I have a personal interest in how we cater for our Māori learners.

My role at Rangikura School is a little different this year as I don’t have my own class, but instead I am a part of every class.  I work alongside staff, students and community with a goal of raising Māori achievement.  I release each classroom teacher for two whole days every term, and during these days I teach Te Ao Māori, Te Reo Māori and Tikanga Māori.  I am also here to support our whānau in any way I can so please feel free to contact me with any queries.

I am currently studying towards a Master of Education majoring in Māori Education and I am very fortunate as I get to weave this theory into real life situations.

You might ask yourself “What has been happening at Rangikura School to cater for my child?”

Well, I hope you enjoy looking through this blog showing just some of the awesome things that happen when your child comes to school…
